Welcome to the
The International Research Network
on Business, Development and Society (BDS
Network)
The network pays particular attention to critical
and in-depth investigation of the broad themes of ‘business and poverty
reduction’, ‘CSR impact assessment’, ‘participation and CSR’,
‘governance and CSR’, and so-called ‘Southern-centred perspectives’. The
network seeks to encourage independent space where reflections and
engagement in dialogue on the on-going changes on the broad CSR and
development/business and poverty reduction discourses and practices can
take place.
The business, CSR and
development policy and research agendas are constantly evolving and the
network seeks to engage in and impact on these changes.
The CSR, development research
and policy agendas have broadened since the start of the network in 2003
to encompass a range of new issues (such as SMEs and CSR, Prahalad’s
bottom-of-the-pyramid approach, etc.). However, the network continues to
see a need to deepen and nuance our existing critique of the mainstream,
business-oriented approach to CSR.
BDS network into the third phase
As the second phase of the BDS network collaboration ended by 31st
December 2009, the network enters its third phase covering 2010-2011. At
the present the remaining members (see members page) are drafting the
plan of outcomes and activities. Information will follow when the plan
is ready.
